Ride The Lake Tahoe & Genoa Loop
A ride around Lake Tahoe will show you why it is considered the jewel of the Sierra. After completing the trip around this gorgeous lake, head for one of Nevada’s oldest towns, Genoa.
The Ride (134-149 miles): From US 395 in south Reno, take Mount Rose Highway (SR 431) southwest for 28 miles to Incline Village. Turn right on SR 28 into California and to Tahoe City for 14 miles. California SR 89 follows the west shore of the lake past Emerald Bay and to South Lake Tahoe, taking 27 miles. Turn left onto US 50 and back to Nevada at Stateline for 5 miles.
To continue the ride to Genoa from Stateline, there are two options. Riders can opt to follow US 50 for 22 miles over Spooner Summit east to US 395 in the Carson Valley. Turn right on US 395 and follow it one mile to Jacks Valley Road. Another right on Jacks Valley Road leads into Genoa after nine miles.
The second option is to take Kingsbury Grade out of Stateline to Genoa. Riders will enjoy the scenery and the challenging, steep winding ride down the Kingsbury Grade. From Stateline, turn right onto SR 207 and follow for 11 miles to SR 206. Turn left on SR 206 and follow north for six miles to Genoa.
For both routes, follow Jacks Valley Road north from Genoa for nine miles to US 395, and back to Reno for 34 miles.
